Paul Avellino
They told me I had two weeks…
In February of 2020 I was working as an electrician for a local supermarket. Pretty standard installation, good group of guys, should have been a blast. It was not..
We watched from our scissor lifts as mobs of shoppers emptied the shelves, most of them completely unaware of our presence. I watched kindness and resilience turn into fear and desperation while quietly working from above. I’m not going to lie, as a new father of two, I was absolutely terrified.
After my first week working within the chaos I did not stock up on toilet paper. I bought seeds, perennial fruit, and sourced materials so that our property could provide as much food as possible for my growing family.
March 15th 2020. That’s the day Avellino Farms was born. The same day that the New York City public school system— the largest school system in the US- shut down. As most of us found ourselves out of a job, I went straight to work at home. They told me I had two weeks…
I didn’t waste any time, used our chickens to til the soil, and the first seeds entered the ground on April 2nd just as I went back to work in an uncertain environment. Back to the empty shelves and the sea of scared, angry, confused people.
From that day on it’s been my goal to not only provide a sustainable food source for my family but to pass on the knowledge freely to anyone who wants to do the same.
The knowledge needed to grow food for your family is power and I am honored to gift you that power.
Be kind and grow your own food.
Peace and love,
The Garden Guinea
